About the Counselor

As a member of the Quest Diagnostics Genetic Counselor Organization, Susan is available for clinical consultations to assist providers with test identification and selection, result interpretation, and appropriate management.  She also provides presentations and in-services regarding neurogenetics, risk assessment, genetic testing guidelines, Quest Diagnostic and Athena neurogenetic test offerings, and genome ethics, law and policy.  In addition, Susan collaborates with the marketing team to develop educational materials for clinicians and patients.
Susan joined Quest Diagnostics in 2015. Before joining Quest, Susan worked at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics at the University of Miami (UM) as the Associate Director of Genomic Education and Outreach for almost nine years.  She is still currently voluntary faculty for UM.  She was recruited to UM from Duke University in 2007.
Susan is nationally recognized for initiating and leading research, outreach, educational, and policy activities to facilitate and expand the responsible translation of genomic medicine in the clinical setting.   Susan has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, encyclopedia entries and chapters, including a joint practice guideline of the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) and National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) on Genetic Counseling and Testing for Alzheimer Disease.  She has also participated in the development of several NSGC position statements while Chair of the Public Policy Committee. 
Susan has produced an abundance of educational resources, conferences, and courses for clinicians, students, and the public, including three full semester courses addressing genome ethics, law and policy directed at undergraduates, PhD students, and medical students as well as an international conference titled, “Why We Can’t Wait: Conference to Eliminate Health Disparities in Genomic Medicine.”  She also contributed to the development of the first Masters in Genomic Medicine program for medical students. Ms. Hahn has provided dozens of invited presentations to professionals, students, and the public, and has been interviewed by several high profile media outlets. 
As an active leader, Ms. Hahn recently served as President of the American Board of Genetic Counseling where she is currently in the last of a five year term.  She has also been an active leader at NSGC where she Chaired or Co-Chaired several committees and task forces, including the 2005 Annual Education Conference, and was acknowledged with both the Outstanding Volunteer and Regional Leadership Award. She has also been a member of the Practice Guideline Committee of the ACMG. 
Susan received an M.S. degree in Genetic Counseling from Brandeis University in 1996 and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
